This Is Why You Should Buy Microsoft On Dips

If you have a certain age, like me, remember when Microsoft (MSFT) was the essential technology stock. Then the iPhone appeared. It was a dark time.

Now the script has been flipped. The software giant of Seattle has recovered its rhythm. After its mobile debacle, prospects are improving, rising. Your business in the cloud is shooting up, and now you're putting a lot of pressure on artificial intelligence.

Microsoft is a must action again, for all the right reasons.

It would be easy to dismiss the company that Bill Gates built as an aspiring gray. Your business in the cloud is great, but nothing like Amazon Web Services. His search business, Bing, has become a line of entry for night comics. And its mobile business has been reduced to a series of applications designed to co-opt the user experience on iPhones and Android.

Forget about all that. What Gates built was a dominant computer franchise. Most of the corporate world is irremediably addicted to its Office productivity software. That led to a flourishing corporate server and network business. From there, taking customers to Azure, their public cloud, has been surprisingly easy.

The benefits of the cloud are obvious: IT managers can scale workflows while reducing implementation costs. It's win-win. However, Microsoft managers did something really smart. They encouraged companies to keep their data on the site, in a hybrid cloud configuration.

Today it is the leading provider of hybrid cloud solutions. It's a big business, where the company has the clear advantage of familiarity.

According to Statistica research, reported in Business Inside in July, Azure is on track to reach an annual execution rate of $ 20 billion. The business has doubled over the last two years. And most importantly, with 90% growth in the most recent quarter, it is expanding almost twice as fast as AWS.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is making large investments in AI. They are not the kind of things that receive headlines. There are no robots to back out or videos of cars that drive cars, and certainly, no computer defeats humans in strategy games.

It is about investing money in functions that take advantage of Office, its dominant productivity suite.

This week, the company announced a group of new AI features. One will help Excel users to see relationships in their work by automatically creating graphics and other graphics. Another will begin to automatically detect trips, deliveries and even email triage in Outlook. And One Drive will start looking for text in the images, then it will route the data to the corresponding application.

Alone, none of these are revolutionaries. However, taken together, they are adhesive enough to keep users stuck in the Microsoft ecosystem. That is the goal. Sorta likes to encourage large corporate clients to maintain control of their data, using Microsoft's server software.

The stock price has been spectacularly boring, in the best possible way. It does not shoot much higher in good news. And it does not collapse in the general weakness of the market. Keep making new highs, consolidating and then making new highs.

Microsoft: Final Free Windows 10 Upgrade Offer Ends Dec. 31

If you're looking for a free upgrade to Windows 10 for $ 119.99 at Microsoft, your options are limited and you're about to run out. For the most part, Microsoft's free update program expired in July 2016. If it has suspended, it has won the unpleasant task of paying at least $ 120 for the most basic version of Microsoft's latest operating system.

However, Microsoft has offered a gap for those still looking to acquire Windows 10 for nothing. Those who used one of Microsoft's assistive technologies in Windows 7 or 8.1 continued to be eligible to download a free Windows 10 update throughout 2017.

"With more than one billion people with disabilities worldwide, we are delighted that customers discover the new accessibility features of Windows 10 Anniversary Update, including the screen-reading experience with Storyteller, access to experiences and applications such as Microsoft Edge, Mail and the Start menu, as well as better tools and resources for developers to create more accessible applications and experiences, "Microsoft wrote in the Accessibility blog last year.

As many enthusiastic downloaders have noticed, Microsoft has made no effort to verify that those who download this version of the free update really need assistive technologies. For Microsoft, control was probably a low priority: few people abused the system to obtain a free upgrade. (And if it has not been updated yet, more than two years after the official debut of Windows 10, you probably will not have problems taking advantage of the assistive technology update in recent months).

Microsoft recently updated its Windows 10 update page for assistive technology users to re-emphasize that its free update offer will expire shortly. And although Microsoft does not say so, the loss of this free update offer is a milestone: the latest official version that users can upgrade to Windows 10 without having to pay.

However, that does not mean that Windows users do not have some ingenious ways to update themselves. According to Ars Technica, users can continue to install Windows 10 as an update with an unused Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 product key. Microsoft could easily change that and force users to have a real Windows 10 key for the update to work, but it is also likely that any Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 product key will continue to allow legitimate updates to Windows 10 starting in 2018.

Microsoft Updates Its Bot Platforms With New Features, Support For Facebook, Slack Bot Features

Microsoft is updating its Microsoft Bot and Skype Bot platforms with new capabilities, as well as additional support for Facebook and Slack bot features.

Microsoft has updated its Skype Bot developer platform with new groups and cards support.

Microsoft originally announced the Skype Bot Platform in March at the company's Build developer conference. As of July 8, Microsoft officials said 30,000 developers are building building bots for its platforms.

As part of today's updates to the Skype Bot Platform, Microsoft added groups support so that bots can now be part of group conversations. Skype Bots now also can take advantage of visual image cards, carousel cards, and receipt cards. The team also is working on single sign-in directly on cards, resulting in users having to authorize their credentials one time only.

Skype is working with Bing to enable natural language understanding to be built directly into Skype Bots via Bing Entity and Intent detection. Microsoft's Bot Framework platform added support for Microsoft's Cognitive Services intent dialog in July.

(I'm not sure what, if anything, these new capabilities have to do with the Bing Concierge Bot that Microsoft seems to be building to go head-to-head with Google's Assistant Bot.)

Using the Microsoft Bot Framework, developers can publish their bots to Skype and submit them for promotion in the Skype and Microsoft bot directories, officials said in Friday's blog post.

Other updates this month to the Microsoft Bot Framework platform include support for Skype calling, Slack buttons, and various Facebook bot features.

Microsoft officials have made available previews of a number of single-purpose bots built using Microsoft's Bot Framework, which is currently available in preview form. Microsoft has begun populating its Bot Directory with a number of company-developed bots, like the Bing Image Bot, Caption Bot, Summarize Bot, and Bing Music Bot.

Currently, developers can build bots via the Microsoft Bot Framework that work in text/SMS, Office 365 mail, Skype, Slack, Kik, GroupMe, Telegram, and the web (using the embeddable chat control). Microsoft expects the Bot Framework to be generally available by the end of calendar 2016.
